Is Your Learning Style Kinesthetic?
Kinesthetic learning or tactile learning is a learning style in which learning takes place by the students carrying out physical activities, rather than listening to a lecture or watching demonstrations.
Kinesthetic learners are the doers of the student learning lot. They like to try out new things, touch and understand, feel and experience what is occurring. Usually, low on patience for listening to long instructions or reading heavy paragraphs, they’re always on the move and gesture a lot while speaking. They are expressive physically and do everything that keeps them in the moment of learning.
They remember best what they ‘did’, rather than what they said or heard and are hence, active participants in learning. They like to explore, experiment and research practically. They like to try new things and never stop, are very spontaneous.
Kinesthetic learning is one of the most effective learning styles and increasingly need to be introduced and practiced more among Indian school communities.
Teachers can make use of tools such as teaching actively say, through activities like dancing or running around, walking etc. Making use of props like flash cards that are illustrated according to the feel, demonstrating through experiments, practical etc. and organizing field visits to museums or botanical parks and likewise.
Thus, learning inside classrooms is actually extended to the world outside and the whole world becomes our classroom.
